A holistic reimagining of a historic multi-structure family compound. We unified the main lodge, a two-storey boathouse, and a detached guest cabin under a shared architectural language of warm cedar, native limestone, and black steel.

The compound had evolved piecemeal over 40 years with clashing rooflines, disjointed paths, and aging foundations. We reskinned and structurally reinforced all buildings, rebuilt the boathouse with a second-floor viewing terrace, and designed continuous stone terraces that navigate the 30-foot slope to the water.
Design Intent & Light Strategy
To honor old-Muskoka heritage while providing modern thermal performance and understated luxury. No gaudy ornamentation—just authentic wood, rock, and panoramic water reflections.
Artisan Craft & Engineering
Custom board-and-batten white cedar with natural oil preservative; dry-stack stone steps cut from quarry stone; custom sauna lined with hand-planed aromatic cedar.
