A dramatic transformation of an inward-facing 1970s cedar cottage into a light-flooded architectural pavilion anchored to granite bedrock. Floor-to-ceiling glass reveals uninterrupted panoramic sunset vistas across Lake Joseph.

The original cottage suffered from low timber ceilings, dark cedar paneling, and cut-off views. We re-engineered the roof truss system with exposed steel bents, raised interior volumes by four feet, and carved out a 40-foot sliding glass wall that dissolves the boundary between the great room and the outdoor screened terrace.
Design Intent & Light Strategy
To bring the granite, pine needles, and deep blue water right to the dinner table. The home respects its Muskoka vernacular through charred Shou Sugi Ban cladding and dry-stacked local granite hearths.
Artisan Craft & Engineering
Continuously book-matched rift-cut white oak cabinetry with integrated soft-close reveal pulls; monolithic soapstone island with waterfall edge; flush zero-threshold sill transitions.
