Transformation Challenge

The barn was structurally compromised and leaning 8 inches off plumb when we acquired the commission. We laser-scanned the timber mortise-and-tenon joints, hydraulically jacked the structure true, and built an internal thermal envelope that exceeds Net-Zero readiness.

Design Intent & Light Strategy

Celebration of agricultural honesty. We left the aged hemlock bents and iron tie rods raw, complementing them with heated polished concrete floors and minimalist black cabinetry.

Artisan Craft & Engineering

Custom steel tension rod trusses; radiant hydronic heated concrete floors with exposed basalt aggregate; floor-to-ceiling sliding barn shutters automated with hidden magnetic linear drives.

“Every guest who steps across the threshold literally stops and looks up in silence. Phinski gave an old agricultural artifact a glorious new life.”
